      1700's and 1800's:   George Washington and Henry Knox thought  the Indians could be Christianized.  America had good relationships with the English people after the war. So they thought the Indians would have good relationships with them also. But the Indians were not Christians. The Indians wanted their land back and they had hatred in their heart for all "new Americans".  After the war, George Washington wanted peace with the Indians. The "new Americans" wanted all Indians removed after winning the wars with the Indians. The process of "cultural transformation," of the Indians was proposed by George Washington and Henry Knox. 
   

 "Cultural Transformation" means Christianize all the Indians, change the Indians. Put them in different clothes, hair cuts, different foods, different homes, different language, etc. So they would act, talk, look and be just like the settlers.

    Many Indians didn't believe women and girls had any rights, in most cases.
